Research in the health field
Health sector companies and related agencies
in Rennes boast purely medical skills (Inserm, CNRS etc.) as well
as know-how resulting from other areas such as information and communication
technologies, the Park's most advanced sector.
In the health field, Rennes Atalante has high research potential
through specialist centres, universities and leading colleges. These
research centres and laboratories enable companies to optimise the
results of applied research and develop new techniques and products.
Bioprojet Biotech
Preclinical therapeutic research.
Biotrial
Clinical and preclinical evaluation of drugs and nutraceutics.
Biopredic
Studies of the safety of medicinal, cosmetic and plant health products,
"claim sustaining".
Cancéropôle
The Cancéropôle has four objectives: identify the biological profils of patients, promote immunotherapy for cancers, improve the ability of cancer-fighting agents to target tumours and obtain maximum benefit fro marine products.
Three platforms have been set up to support this research: a network of tumour libraries,
a functional imaging resource, a centre for the management of clinical trials.
In Rennes, the Cancéropôle Grand Ouest involves 15 fundamental and clinical research units.
CHU
CHU de Rennes (teaching centre) is the 1st centre for liver transplants. It has 450 clinical research trials underway.
Centre national de la recherche scientifique
Hepatological research, genetic recombination,
cell biology and reproduction.
CRLC (Cancer treatment unit)
Prevention, treatment, training and research
into cancer.
Ecole nationale supérieure de chimie de Rennes
Analytical chemistry, biotechnologies, environment,
processes, analyses, model building
Research unit: synthesis and activation of biomolecules. Affiliated
to the CNRS.
Etiam
Medical imaging.
Etablissement français du sang
Blood transfusion, cryobiology, laboratory services,
production of reagents.
Three main areas of research: auto-immune diseases and histocompatibility,
cell immunology, reagent laboratory (tissue culture and production,
monoclonal antibodies).
IFR GFAS
Basic research institute gathering research activities in biology, health, agronomy. Interface between units to increase disciplinary knowledge, transfer towards clinical and therapeutic application or towards improvement of the agronomic production.
Institut national de la recherche agronomique
Research in the fields of food processing and
nutrition.
Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale
Medical research in the health sector. 4 Inserm
units in Rennes: U 522 (hepatology), U 625 (reproduction in male
vertebrates), U 620 (detoxication and tissue repair) and U 642 (laboratory for signal processing and imaging).
Irisa
Research in modelization of life sciences (medical imaging and bio-informatics):
- Symbiose project: biological systems and models, bio-informatics and sequences,
- Visages project: vision, action and information management system in health.
Ouest-génopole
Development in genomics and post-genomics.
5 technological plateforms ie. gene sequencing and genotyping, transcriptomics, proteomics, functional exploration and bioinformatics.
In Rennes, Ouest-génopole involves 19 research units.
